GUIDING LIGHTS 2006-07
Guiding Lights is the first major mentoring scheme in the UK designed to identify and support emerging film industry talent.

25 film industry professionals in the early stages of their careers have been selected for Guiding Lights 2006/7. Successful applicants have been matched with established practitioners who will provide mentor advice and support throughout the programme and beyond.

Lighthouse sought applications from up-and-coming talent from all sections of the community and from a range of film industry disciplines, including directors, producers, writers, business affairs executives, talent agents, sales agents, distributors, exhibitors, marketing executives and publicists who had to have at least two years' experience in their field.

Guiding Lights is a crucial part of A Bigger Future. It will further the career development of professionals working in the UK film industry by providing them with high profile industry mentoring. By supporting Guiding Lights, Skillset and the UK Film Council also aim to contribute significantly to the overall diversity of the film industry's workforce by addressing the issues of access which individuals face when moving up and establishing their careers.

Tim Bevan, Steering Committee Chair said, “"Training in film is very difficult as most skills used in the movie business from producer to production runner are learnt on the job. This is why the concept of mentoring is such a good one for our industry. Having a formal bond where someone learning about their chosen career in the industry can have ongoing advice from someone with great experience should be invaluable and help in the demystifying of all of our roles."”

Marc Boothe, Steering Committee Member said “"The film business, like any other business is not just about what you know, but who you know. The Guiding Lights initiative is not just about supporting tomorrows talent today; but its also one of the few initiatives that will connect talent, regardless of their background, with the desire, ambition and talent to succeed, with some of the smartest and sharpest minds in the business."
