Providing high profile mentoring for up-and-coming film industry talent

Guiding Lights is the national mentoring scheme for the UK Film Industry. It is a year-long programme in which 25 up-and-coming film professionals have been matched with established practitioners who will provide mentor advice and support throughout the programme and beyond. The programme is run by Lighthouse in partnership with Skillset.

Top names from the world of filmmaking are taking part to help support the next generation of UK film talent. Mentors include directors Paul Greengrass (United 93), Stephen Frears (The Queen), Gurinder Chadha (Bend It Like Beckham); writers Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park), Deborah Moggach (Pride and Prejudice) and Shawn Slovo (Captain Corelli’s Mandolin); and producers Andrew Eaton (The Road To Quantanamo), Norma Heyman (Mrs Henderson Presents) and Michael Kuhn (Severance).

Guiding Lights also benefits from the support of an advisory steering group chaired by producer Tim Bevan, Co-Chairman of Working Title Films.

Guiding Lights is part of A Bigger Future, the UK Film Skills Strategy, a joint project between Skillset and the UK Film Council to address skills development across all jobs in the UK film industry.

Having a formal bond where someone learning about their chosen career in the industry can have ongoing advice from someone with great experience should be invaluable and help in the demystifying of all of our roles.”
